Traditional Chiefs Storm Badagry Market To Force Down Prices

Traditional chiefs in Badagry visited Agbalata Market on Saturday to enforce a directive aimed at lowering food and goods prices. The Traditional Ruler of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi 1, had dissolved market committees on August 28, prohibiting them from setting prices. The chiefs, led by Chief Michael Onu-Osekan, emphasized that traders should not overcharge customers, stressing the need for fair pricing to ease the burden on the community. Some traders, however, resisted paying security and waste fees, which prompted the chiefs’ visit. The traders promised to comply with the ruler’s directives, while they urged the government to reduce fuel prices, which they cited as a major cause of price hikes.
