Passengers Lament As Lagos Drivers, Louts Raise Fares

Passengers traveling from Lagos to Ogun State were stranded on Sunday at the Berger Bus Stop due to a sudden hike in transport fares imposed by levy collectors, known as agberos. A PUNCH correspondent observed that agberos instructed drivers to charge up to N1000 for trips to Arepo, Magboro, Ibafo, and Mowe, a significant increase from the previous fares of N300 to N500. Passengers, including worshippers returning from church, pleaded with drivers to reduce the fares, but to no avail. A passenger named Adewale expressed shock at the continuous fare increases, while another passenger, Joshua, blamed the agberos for dictating the higher fares to increase their earnings. A driver, Kazeem, justified the hike, citing the high cost of fuel purchased from the black market due to scarcity.
