Panic As Residents Gather Fuel From A Fallen Tanker

According to a Facebook post by journalist Agba Jalingo, a fuel tanker overturned on a major road in Small Iwuru, Akamkpa LGA, Cross River State, prompting locals to rush to the scene to collect the spilling fuel. He noted the danger of the situation, stating, “See the number of people daring death and scooping fuel in the face of such massive danger,” and expressed surprise that a police truck was parked nearby without intervention.

This incident comes on the heels of a tragic petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Jigawa State, last week, which resulted in the deaths of at least 90 people and injuries to 50 others. Such accidents present serious risks, as siphoning fuel can lead to explosions or fires, endangering lives and property.

Despite the inherent dangers, fuel scarcity and economic hardship drive locals to engage in this risky behavior. Authorities have been urged to secure the area and prevent potential disasters, while emergency services continue to warn the public against such actions for their safety.
