Three Dead, Including Two Police Officers, in Clash Between Shiite Group and Police at Wuse Junction, Abuja

Three people, including two police officers and a trader, have been confirmed dead following a violent clash between members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as the Shiite group, and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force at Wuse Junction, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred at a police checkpoint near a traffic light, left three others unconscious and receiving treatment in a hospital. Additionally, three police patrol vehicles were set ablaze during the confrontation.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the proscribed group launched an unprovoked attack on the police checkpoint, armed with machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives. Several arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, strongly condemned the attack on the officers, vowing to bring those responsible to justice. Adeh added that the situation is now under control and normalcy has been restored.
