Nigerians Abandon Air Travel As Ticket Prices Soar Above ₦‎200,000

The soaring cost of domestic air travel in Nigeria is driving many citizens away from flying, as ticket prices have skyrocketed to over N200,000 for one-way trips on key routes like Lagos to Abuja, Enugu, Kano, and Owerri. Some flights now cost as much as N650,000, a significant increase from previous prices of N50,000 to N65,000. Contributing factors include a shortage of foreign exchange, increased maintenance costs, and fewer operational airlines like Dana Air. With reduced aircraft availability and high prices, many Nigerians, including frequent flyers like Patience Kofo and Musa Iyal, are opting for alternative transportation, making air travel increasingly unaffordable for the general public.
