Marketers Resume Petrol Importation As Dangote Refinery Fails

Petroleum marketers in Nigeria have resumed importing petrol to supplement the country’s fuel supply due to the Dangote Refinery’s inability to meet demand. Four vessels carrying around 123.4 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) arrived at Nigerian ports between October 18 and 20, docking at both Apapa in Lagos and Calabar in Cross River State.

This import surge follows the refinery’s shortfall, producing only 10 million litres of petrol daily, far less than the promised 25 million litres. The government’s full deregulation of the downstream oil sector has enabled dealers to import PMS, with about 141 million litres brought in during September alone.
