Lagos Bans Contractor Over Building Code Violations

The Lagos State Government has barred AEOS Engineering Services, the contractor for a 10-story building in Somolu, from all construction activities in Lagos due to building plan violations. The developer, Chief Ebere Nwosu, was granted permission to construct a six-floor structure but added three additional floors without approval. This action breached state building codes, prompting the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) to seal the site and ultimately enforce stricter penalties after the developer failed to comply with an ultimatum to correct the violations.
The government, led by Special Adviser Dr. Olajide Babatunde and LASBCA officials, has mandated the demolition of the unauthorized floors and intends to prosecute the developer to ensure compliance. Additionally, residents are encouraged to report illegal constructions through the “Capture Lagos” platform, supporting the “See Something, Say Something” initiative to strengthen regulatory oversight.
