House of Representatives Launches Investigation into National Grid

The House of Representatives has instructed its Committee on Power to investigate the recurring failures of the national grid and submit a report within three weeks. This decision arose from a motion presented by Hon. Mansur Manu Soro (Bauchi, PDP), who expressed deep concern about the frequent grid failures, which have led to widespread power outages and exacerbated the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.

Hon. Soro highlighted the importance of a reliable power supply for economic growth and noted that the national grid has collapsed multiple times in 2024, leaving regions in the North West and North East in darkness. He urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restore electricity to the affected areas, questioning the government’s commitment to improving electricity supply despite ongoing issues and recent tariff hikes for consumers.
