FG To Use NIN For Verification As It Begins Sale Of 50kg Rice

The Federal Government of Nigeria has begun selling 30,000 metric tonnes of subsidized milled rice at N40,000 per 50 kg bag, requiring buyers to present their National Identification Number (NIN). This initiative aims to address current challenges in the country, ensuring that only one bag of rice is sold per person to prevent fraud. Buyers will be verified using their NIN and phone numbers.

The purchase process involves logging buyer details, paying electronically, and receiving a treasury receipt for collection. In Abuja, multiple sales points will be set up to distribute the rice. This initiative was initially announced in July but was delayed without explanation.
