Delta Directs Worship Centres, Schools To Install CCTVs

The Delta State government has mandated that all owners of public places—such as malls, eateries, cinemas, supermarkets, gas stations, private parks, event centers, hotels, offices, worship centers, and schools—install smart surveillance cameras. This directive aims to enhance security in these areas and is in line with a law that became effective on July 28, 2020, but has been poorly enforced. Non-compliance will result in a 2-year prison term, a fine of N500,000, and the sealing of the premises until the requirement is met. The directive includes specifications for outdoor, indoor, and street surveillance cameras. The government emphasizes that these measures are crucial for improving security and urges all residents to support the initiative.
