Deadly Shootings In Ifite Awka, Anambra, Many Killed

A shooting spree in Ifite Awka, Anambra State, on Thursday morning has reportedly resulted in several fatalities, with eyewitnesses indicating that the violence may be linked to cult activities. The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. in an area frequented by students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. One student reported seeing a lifeless body, while a lecturer claimed to have witnessed seven dead bodies in the vicinity before abandoning her journey to school.
This shooting follows a previous incident in Nibo, where at least 12 people were killed in a cult-related attack. The exact number of casualties from Thursday’s shooting remains unclear. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that a police team has responded to the scene and promised to provide more details soon.
Ikenga also mentioned that the Anambra State Police Command is investigating intercepted videos and voice notes that threaten violence in the area, asserting their commitment to maintaining law and order. In response to these threats, police and security forces have intensified patrols to ensure public safety.
