Gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen killed Mr. Sunday Oche, the Labour Party chairman of Igumale Ward 1 in Ado Local Government Area, Benue State, on September 2, 2024. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM when Oche and five others were ambushed by the herders while returning from a farm. Oche was shot and killed, while the others escaped with gun injuries. The attackers also stole their motorcycles. Oche’s body was later recovered by local youths and taken to the hospital. The Benue State Police were notified, but the police spokesperson had not yet confirmed the incident. Oche left behind a wife and two children, and his burial is planned for later in the week. The Labour Party has confirmed the incident and is supporting the family.
